An Average Day

Hello to all!

Today is case of not a lot to report. Watching Korean drama's always make me feel dosmeticated and 'wifey' so my better part of the afternoon is going to be spent cooking for the family and cleaning the house. Apron is optional, lol. I do have to go back to work today and see Carol; as she was a flood victim she received 2 vouchers for a makeover at Terry White chemist worth $60. Carol isn't a makeup wearer, so she offered them to Tristin and I last night. I just have to pop in to see her and pick them up.

However I did just manage to catch a few promo pics of the upcoming MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick collection for Spring and it's pure, utter love! For the sake of pure makeup porn:

I'm totally digging the 5th one across and the light pinky purple.

It's now about 2 weeks til the Nail Art Day! I even made a Facebook event for it and an cute pink apron to wear. It's like a 'french maid' sort of half apron, with a white frill and the main part being baby pink. I also bought some blue circle lens and my lashes came on Thursday. I'm so tempted to go and get a tan to match my 'Aussie Gyaru Inspired' look that I've been loving. But back to the nail day.

So far the menu consists of flavoured milk, pink lamingtons, pink bunny onigiri, cake, mini m&m cookies, pocky, finger sandwiches and pink guava and coconut icey pops. See the running theme here? As I'm the one that organised the day I chose the menu and coming into my house always means pink or asian food. Often both. But we will end up wearing our creations, so I wanted the food to be easy picked up by fingers or chopsticks.

That's all for today; I might update a little later when I have more details on the makeover card.

Yours in love of pink lip gloss,
Julia

Happy Australia Day!

For those that are Australian (like me!) Happy Aussie Day! For international, Australia Day is the day European settlers first touched down here and every year we get a public holiday to sit around and bask up the Aussie-ness. The skies are clear and blue and it's getting hotter by the minute. I have to work this afternoon, but as a rule we don't really do anything on A-Day except for sit and relax. The great Aussie dream!

Makeup News? My parental imposed ban ends this Tuesday and I already have several purchases lined up. And if anyone here follows Marlena over at MakeupGeek, you'll notice her weekly challenges are back up and running and this looks to be a fun one. You can only create a look using eye liners and I'm definately entering it. I also have up'ed my collection of MAC considerably; I caved during the ban and bought 11 new shadows. So if anyone asks, I just spent a lot on decodenwa and phone credit this month.

My must-have list after this ban is over has included the new Metal Mania eye shadows and the NYX HD primers after all the rave reviews I've seen on both Musings and The Fancy Face.

And a general update, we're moving very soon and I can't wait. Then it's beauty 4 days a week and uni for the last 3. Although we're moving to be closer to the uni for my brother, I'm doing my course via distance so that it doesn't clash with my beauty course.

So with that I'll leave you with a quote and a picture I've come to like recently:

The boundaries which divide life from death
are at best shadowy and vague.
Who shall say where one ends,
and the other begins?
Edgar Alan Poe

Have a  happy Wednesday!

Girl's Generation CF

Evening!

Apart from makeup and video games, I really love asian culture. Namely, asian pop culture. I'm one of those people that will be on the verge of tears during another heart break on Boys Over Flowers or be in suspense over Personal Taste. At the start of the year I stumbled on the popular Korean pop group, Girl's Generation (or SNSD) and became addicted to Gee. Seriously, how can you not?

Recently the girls collaborated with Intel and did a song and MV for them, which is super colourful and bright. I'm really crushing on Tiffany's hair in this as well ^^.

So, without further a-do, let me introduce the MV for 'Visual Dreams' by SNSD:

DAAAAAAAMN!

Back again! This time, I'm thinking for good.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year! I had to work on both so there were no raging parties or drunken revelry, I'm afraid.

Originally, this post was going to be about MAC SA's and a general product rant but it's now 11pm and I have to start work at 6am tomorrow. So today is going to be a review/ swatches of all 28 NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils. I bought these for $63.48 AUD just before Halloween (they were part of a 10% off Halloween sale) after playing with them in Groove and just generally lusting after them. So when I got the package about 12 days later from the US it only had 26. Turned out to be a massive 'my bad' as they were listed as having 2 colours sold out (which I received after they re-stocked 2 weeks later) that I didn't read.

Now, Jumbo Pencils retail for $3.99 on cherryculture.com and on the NYX site. The only place to buy them in-store here is from Groove at $6.99 each. Massive difference when you want all 28. As with all of my online purchases, I factor shipping in with the total cost of an item and $6.99 is just way too harsh for one pencil, regardless of how much I love them.

Ok, so the NYX site says that:

'Jumbo eye pencils could be used for lining as well as shadows. Containing mineral oils and powders, the pencils do not dry out your eyes and applies smoothly without pulling of tugging.'

Now, I don't know how much success you're going to have in terms of using these as eye liners, but NYX are correct in that they apply smoothly. If you don't use a good primer (I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance) and then set with a powder eyeshadow, these are a complete nightmare. By themselves they crease and smear like crazy and only lasted on my lid for 20 minutes. Just for reference, I don't have oily lids nor dry lids.

When you set them with a powder eyeshadow, they intensify the colour and can give the shadow cool or warm undertones (depending on which colour you use) with minimal creasing. They store well in my collection and make great additions to anyone's makeup kit. The only annoying part is that you need a special sharpener to sharpen them, but they also melt like a dream if you want to put them into seperate jars. I haven't needed to sharpen mine yet, so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Although NYX also make Jumbo Lip Pencils, I like to use the Hot Pink and Orange colours on my lips as well. They certainly don't last very long, but if I need a pop of colour for a few FOTD photos then I tend to reach for them. I haven't tried them as cheek colours, though.

Swatch-wise, they're really creamy and very pigmented. These photos were without Purple or Iced Mocha.

My favourites: Milk, Purple Velvet, Lavender, Pots and Pans, Pure Gold and Slate.

All in all, I will replace most of the colours when they run out and Milk and Slate have permanent positions in my kit.

General update:
Andy is home after a 7 day delay due to the snow stopping Heathrow.
The goof forgot my UD Naked palette and has to have his Mum ship it over.
Going to Inglot in the next fortnight!
Sale shopping with my girlies on Tuesday to pick up some new products.
I'm moving soon and get to design my bedroom!
It's still raining and most places are totally flooded here in QLD.
Just found out Avril is releasing a new album on the 8/3 and I'm not sure if I want it. Was never a major fan of her songs minus Sk8 Boi.
Planning my trip to Pa-rie and IMATS for this year!

Ok chicklets, I'm out. Be sure to let me know if you NYE was a rager or quiet.
